Montserrat.....
....."The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean"
Montserrat is a quiet and friendly island, it's mountains covered with green,
it's exotic, glittering black sand beaches deserted, and it's people always
ready with a quick smile and a hello. It's crime free atmosphere and near
perfect weather help add to your total relaxation. Most people don't even
lock their doors!
If beaches are your thing, you'll love Montserrat’s! One of our
favorites is only four minutes away. Although all beaches are public,
don't be surprised if the only footprints found on them will be yours.
There is excellent snorkeling off the beaches, and diving trips can easily be
arranged with certified instructors and guides to take you to unspoiled reefs
and little known wrecks. Hiking trails in the northern part of the island can
offer some of the most interesting sights and sounds found anywhere.
For further excursions, a rental car is advised. They
are inexpensive (25-30/day) and we can easily arrange to have one at StarBlest
upon your arrival. Local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar
(EC), but US dollars are widely accepted. There are two banks available to
exchange currency, if you wish. Credit cards may also be accepted, but it is
good to ask first. Montserrat has been making headlines with its active volcano
for the past few years. What this affords you is the opportunity to see
first-hand the power of nature, as few others ever will. Views from the
Montserrat Volcano Observatory, (MVO) along with explanations from the
scientists on site, create a unique experience. Words fail to describe
what the volcano looks like after dark!
Tours
into the Day Time Entry Zone (a very restricted area & entry not
always permitted) will show you sights you could only imagine. Boat
trips around the island also offer unique views and show the remarkable
differences that now exist from the north to the south of the island. You
will not only see how quickly nature has started to re-establish itself, but be
seeing a whole culture re-establishing itself as well. Dining spots are
varied, and cover the full range from "Roti", pizza, or homemade burgers to frog
legs, filet mignon, or fresh lobster, and don't miss the opportunity for some of
our famous "goatwater"! Speaking of water, fresh water is plentiful, pure
and delicious, piped from mountain springs to all homes on Montserrat, so your water at the villa will probably be
safer and more pure than at home! One parting comment....there are no fast
food chain restaurants, all-inclusive-mega-resorts, casinos with glitzy
nightlife, or high-rise hotels. Montserrat is the way the Caribbean used
to be. Full of quick to smile friendly people, good foods, and a slower
more relaxed pace. Your villa vacation will allow you to Experience
the Caribbean, not just experience the weather.
